... first shojou manga that I actually liked. o0 ( besides my yaoi.. ) I'm only on volume 14 right now, but it's pretty interesting.
Anyone heard of it slash read it?

I read the first few volumes, but I don't really like it. I find the main characters to be Mary Sue and Gary Stu-ish. I love Aidou though... he'd be my favorite character.
I found that with MeruPuri as well (the Mary Sue, Gary Stu bit), but that one I actually liked for some odd reason. So I'm not sure what's putting me off with Vampire Knight. But if you do like that, you should check out MeruPuri. Matsuri Hino did quite well with the art in that one.
Who'd be your favorite character in Vampire Knight? I always ask this because I get such different answers every time xD

Vampire Knight! Woo! Yeah. Shoujo? Ah... okay.
Vampires? HELL YES. I really like Vampire Knight, just because the author takes a concept that many others have taken and really shows the controversy and politics behind the whole situation.
My favorite character is probably Rido Kuran. Maybe Kaname Kuran. I like the whole strong vampire thing, especially coupled with madness (*resists urge to make a 300 reference*), thus Rido. xD And Alucard.
I think my favorite would be Kaname if he weren't so angsty. Same thing is possible for Zero and Ichiru... The series is an angst puddle. I know that this is a bit of a part of it, and it definitely moves the drama along- it's just that I find it harder to connect with the characters when they spend the whole time being miserable.
>> Even when they're happy, they're not happy about the fact that they're happy. Yuki was my saving grace in that series for a while, with her cheerfulness...

Hm.. Probably Aidou too. xD; And Meru Peri? I'll have to check that out.
I understand the Mary-sue-ness. But if you were to pick up a Shojou Beat, EVERYONE is pretty and almost perfect in all the manga in it.
Vampire Knight! Woo! Yeah. Shoujo? Ah... okay. Yeah.. shojou as in "aimed for girls." ^^;
I don't believe I got that far into it to see any controversy or politics involved with it. o0 -maybe I'm just stupid?- ^^;;
I liked that she didn't absorb too much of the theatrical take on vampires. Such as sunlight melts them.
Lol. Just, lol.

I was never really interested in Vampire Knight, is it worth getting into?
I always kind of avoided it because my friend Ally is into it, and she's, well... one of those angstmuffin, no-one-understands-me, Twilight-is-the-best-series-ever people. So when I heard of the whole prettyful, perfect vampires cliche + boarding school cliche I was like... no.

And no.. I probably wouldn't recommend it then. Plus I just skipped the rest and read pretty much the ending and it's... bleh. Stopped me from throughly finish the series.
Like Crow said, it is an angst puddle.

Some angstpuddles are good angstpuddles though xD If a manga is great enough, to the point where I feel involved with and sympathetic for the characters, then I can deal with angst. A friend of mine lent me the first volume of Vampire Knight and I didn't think it was that bad, I was just never motivated to look into it more.
